About Me

I'll give you a quick background on what I am doing and what I hope to do in the future.  I became seriously interested in fashion photography around six years ago while I attended design school (Pratt) in NYC.  I have now finally made the major investment in purchasing professional level studio lighting and all the light modifiers and various equipment needed to pursue this passion.  What attracts me to this of segment of photography is the ability to have complete control over everything from the look of the model, the make-up, the hair styling, the wardrobe, the lighting and the post processing once the image is shot and to create something artistic.  As opposed to simply shooting landscapes or standard portraiture, which is of very little interest to me.  Having a background in graphic design drives the desire to use fashion style photography as a way to create "scenes".  I look at it as something very similar to an artist whose medium is painting or drawing to create a piece of art, however I want to use a model, make-up, hair styling, wardrobe, lighting and post processing as my tools to create a pice of art.

Right now I am slowly working on learning how to effectively use all this new studio equipment in order to achieve the look(s) I want.  As I am just starting out, it's really not important to find the most experienced model.  I am more interested in finding someone with the look I want whether they have experience or not and try to work with them on a semi-regular basis.  The goal is to slowly build a portfolio featuring this type of photography as well as learn the fine art of studio lighting.  In several years when my wife and I may be closer to Boston I would like to have a very solid portfolio as well as photography skills so that I could hopefully pursue this style of photography as a possible additional source of income along with my graphic design business.

As I am quite new to this I would prefer to stay away from TFP shoots and simply pay models an hourly rate.  I have access to a stylist that I use for most of my shoots.  If we do end up shooting, you are welcome to bring a friend or two along, however I would prefer to keep it as professional as possible without a group of friends hanging out chatting on their cell phones distracting both of us.

Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to discuss the possibility of working together and share your ideas.
