About Me

In the spring of 1995, a fifteen-year-old, Minneapolis-born, Australian- raised, Central Florida transplant named Jimmy Hubbard joined his first heavy rock band. Though he initially joined the band as a creative way to spent his after-school hours, Jimmy quickly realized that he wanted nothing more than to work creatively in the music industry.

Jimmy spent the next three years attending High School at Harrison Arts Center in Lakeland, Florida, where he discovered his passion and talent for photography. When he was not studying or working on numerous art projects, Jimmy fed his musical obsession by managing his band and playing shows. Upon graduation, Jimmy enrolled in the art program at Florida Southern College. He studied at FSC until 2000, at which time Jimmy transferred to The Cooper Union for The Advancement of Science and Art in New York City.

After completing a BFA in Fine Art at The Cooper Union in 2003, Jimmy chose to remain in NYC and wholly dedicate himself to his photography. After building his portfolio through freelance music photography gigs, in February of the following year, Jimmy accepted an offer from Future U.S., Inc. to fill the position of Photography Director of their Music Division, a role that has since grown to involve overseeing print publications such as Guitar World, Guitar Legends, Buyer’s Guides, Revolver and Guitar Aficionado, as well as numerous DVDs and new media projects.

Though he has earned a reputation as one of the most well respected photographers within the music industry, Jimmy continues to challenge himself by tackling a diverse range of subjects and locations.

Whether he’s shooting a luxury furniture catalog in New Jersey, movie stars in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, gourmet food presentation in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, or backstage portraits of Metallica at London’s Wembley Stadium, Jimmy’s sense of humor, unaffected personality and palpable enthusiasm for his craft always puts his subjects at ease—a fact that’s ultimately reflected in the intimate, relaxed tone of his portraits.

Jimmy’s tenacity, ability to improvise on the fly, and uncanny eye for the “perfect shot” enable him to achieve excellent results under even the most challenging circumstances.

Jimmy recently completed a two-year documentary on Warner Bros. Records’ rising heavy rock band Mastodon. The project, which focused on the writing, recording and supporting tour for the band’s Crack the Skye album, was released internationally in a deluxe album/DVD package in early 2009.
