About Me

Thanks for having a gander at my profile! :)

I befriended in an artist group on social media the editor of an online male art magazine 'Noisy Rain' in late 2014 but the Winter edition of it was already set so I was published in the Spring edition in March 2015. I was quite chuffed about with it being my first time being published in my life of any significance. It's always a joy to be able to have your work shared with a wide audience and getting feedback since artists feed a little on encouragement. :P
The magazine is interested in publishing more of my art but I must overcome my chronic procrastination and deliver some finished art. hehe Wish me prolific luck. ;)

The winners were announced for the 2014 Wallace Art Awards on 1 Sep but didn't place anywhere which was disappointing although a good first attempt getting into the finalist selection. The exhibition ended recently 2 Sep - 19 Oct and a purchase request for my entry was sent to me so happy it got to hang in the gallery for a month to join my other work in the Trust's collection. I'm hoping to leave a legacy of work at the Trust so they can be appreciated posthumously.

On 6 Aug I was selected as a finalist in the 2014 Wallace Art Awards in New Zealand which is my first ever entry into the annual competition. The winner of the various prizes and titles will be announced at the pre-opening evening of the show on 1 Sep so am nervously excited at just making it into the travelling show if my work gets chosen to tour other galleries in NZ. :)

As of 7th Oct 2013 my journey on this site has reached full circle with my yearly paid subs ending today and have reduced my art pics to a bare fave 15 minimum. I've decided to try a bit of blogging with my art process that will give me a chronological structure as I progress through my work. It'll be nice to have an art diary to scribble some thoughts and slap on some visuals. :P

I'll be back now and then to check up on some inspiring male models, photographers & artists and favouriting other's pics. Also will link this site for my art life story so I don't have to tell it again and give this profile some purpose still. :)

I had my first art showings in Feb 2013, not a solo exhibition but naturally have to pay my dues and work up to one but maybe this year if I'm lucky and paint like crazy. lol
In any case I'm happy to finally start keeping a track of my exhibitions starting with these 2:

'The Kiss' 8-18Feb 2012 (2 works) - Black Asterisk, Auckland, NZ

'Male Nudes' 4Feb-14Apr 2012 (1 work) - The Wallace Trust - Pah Homestead, Auckland, NZ

*cue life story spiel* ;oP

I've set a goal on my bucket list to have an exhibition of my work whilst I'm still on this earth so am after male nude model muses since that's my cup of tea for life drawing & painting sessions to further my work and explore different directions.

Still starting out so have a makeshift studio in my bedroom and sleeping on the couch like a bohemian. Hoping to take over the lounge as a bigger studio to sketch models once I have the house all to myself in the future. Just going with the flow and seeing where my creative interests drive me.
Am cool with those that might want to keep their undies or togs on and am interested in different body types to challenge my skills.

Hoping to find fellow artists and adventurous models who wish to collaborate on my development as an artist that are either experienced or better yet are curious about the art world and life modelling. Wanting to sketch dancers and martial artists, models who have a better body awareness in their posing would be awesome but regular amateur models are good for practice also.

My art background stems from my years in college where I was introduced to life drawing and the power of the nude human figure through the expression of art. I did a year of life drawing at Carrington Polytechnic (now Unitec) in the 90's in the Foundation year of my Bachelor of Design (majoring in Interiors/3D Spatial Design). However the course of Exhibition Design had been shut down the year I was going to elect it as my major so my art has an interest in background creation and colour, lighting & patterns.

Some artist influences are Degas, Lautrec, Schiele, Klimt, Hanly, Picasso & Viennese Seccessionists & Mannerism.

In the past couple of years I've renewed my interest in life drawing again through nightclasses at ArtStation (local community art school) and have just completed my 2nd course there. Keen on pursuing further tutelage by other artist mentors and other forms of art to apply my life drawing to like printmaking & mixed media.

Previously I only used chalk pastels & charcoal drawings mainly but have discovered that I enjoy acrylic painting. Being a gay artist I have developed a focus more on the male figure naturally and perhaps more erotic work solo and couples but also keen on dancers with the lines & movement it provides for art. Keen on exploring life drawing outside the bounds of the usual stationary single figure into how 2 or more figures interrelate to each other and creating narrative with the composition and colour. There is naturally a voyeuristic element but I think that kind of energy is beneficial to channel towards my art and as you can see from my work I'm excited by colour, form and composition rather than anything pornographic. The novelty of nudity disappears like being a doctor with their subject. I enjoy the beauty of the body and seek to capture invigorating and positive moments of the natural state of undress.

My style currently can only be described as a juxtaposition of a lot of elements and I call it 'Alice In Wonderland Pop Art Expressionism'. hehe I love anime and popular culture so classical and modern art sometimes wanders into my creative gaze.

Looking for repeat models since always good to have good trust and rapport with a model to create great art and continue a dialogue with developing themes with. I like models who come with ideas and comfortable with their bodies to strike poses they can hold comfortably for long periods. Am cool with newbies since I'm new to having my own model which I've done once before but it's all a learning experience for all involved. However I just work with what the model is ok with and one-off models are cool too.

I can be contacted via email through this site if you like my work and would like to be part of my kooky imagination. Not looking for paid models since am doing it for fun and casually at present but hoping for models who are happy to receive picture files of the sketches and final works based on them and possibly a few reference photos which might be taken if the model is comfortable with that. I like to finish the bulk of the work during the session since I like the spontaneity so any nudity is anonymous in the artwork since I'm not a super-realist or tasteful hidden nudity is another option for the modest models which will work for my artistic purposes fine.

Long term compensation I'll invite all models to attend my exhibition/s when it reaches fruition. =] Thanks for reading and keeping an open mind.
