About Me

Dean Mongan began his journey in the motion picture industry in 1988. He started in Detroit, Michigan, working as a freelance production assistant on television commercials and corporate videos. After landing a staff position with Heart Productions in Ann Arbor, Dean learned to produce as well as light and shoot video projects.

His desire to learn the craft of cinematography led him to a position as rental technician with Stratton Camera in Farmington Hills, MI. Under the leadership of Director of Photography (DP), Lon Stratton, Dean learned the artistic and technical logistics of lighting and cinematic creativity.

After a year with Stratton camera, Dean began to work as a freelance camera assistant. Dean went on and assisted some of the nation’s top commercial DP’s on national television commercials for companies such as: General Motors, Cadillac, Ford, McDonalds, Molson Canadian Beer, Bank One, Lotus Software, Cigna Health Care, and State Farm Insurance.

In 1994, Dean moved to Phoenix Arizona. He continued working as a freelance Assistant Camera, (AC) on "Made for T.V." Movies, Feature Films, Documentaries and Music Videos. Dean later accepted a position with Larry John Wright Advertising. While on staff at LJW, Dean produced, shot and directed over 100 projects. These included television commercials, industrials, and marketing videos.

In 1999, Dean moved to Los Angeles and returned to camera assistant work and worked on numerous feature films, T.v. series, commercials and documentaries. Dean also worked with Mike Lobell Productions, on the back lot of Universal Studios, reading scripts and writing coverage.

After forming M.A.D. Films (Make A Difference) with actor Billy O’Sullivan, Dean and Billy produced and shot commercials for AAA Insurance,
PSA's for National Exchange Club Foundation and some Agency Spec projects for, Foote Cone and Belding of Irvine, CA

In September, 2000 Dean began shooting interviews for the Documentary, “Justice Incarcerated”. This began an eight year journey to follow the case to the federal Court. It is the hopes of the producers that this film will prove the innocence of wrongfully convicted Frederick Freeman as well as inspire the lawmakers to change laws making it more difficult for prosecutors to convict the innocent.

In 2007 Dean worked as Director of Photography and Editor of a feature length documentary titled, “From Silence To Sound”. This Film won several awards including: “Best International Documentary Representing the U.S. in the Cairo International Film Festival, Egypt; “Best Documentary” at the Evergreen International Film Festival in South Africa; “Most Inspirational” documentary at the New York International Film Festival 20009.

In 2008 Dean Co- Directed “Save the World” a.k.a. International Angels. Filmed on location in Cabo San Lucas Mexico, this a documentary showcasing the final eight days in an amazing quest to save a family from their desperate situation. With ten volunteers, eight days, and a few dollars, we changed this families lives. The Cortez family of six had no toilet, no running water, dirt floors for beds, buckets for bathtubs, and were constantly ill due to their extremely poor living conditions. Save the world, recently won an Accolade in the La accolade Film Festival and won "Best Documentary" in the Oceanside, CA Film Festival.

In early 2008, Dean Volunteered live amongst the earthquake survivors of Peru to document the earthquake relief efforts of a group of young American missionaries on a tour known as the world race. Not only did Dean capture the devastation and hopelessness of the earthquake survivors, he also was able to innovatively use the Internet to be a voice for those whom the world has forgotten and make a difference.

In 2009 a simple editing job, quickly turned into Head of Production, that catapulted him, and a camera package, to the Hot deserts of Dubai, UAE as well as the dangerous jungles of Sierra Leone Ghana, and Togo, West Africa. Dean was shooting, and editing content for a T.V. pilot for a show called, “The Diamond Hunter”. It focuses on the raw diamond and gold buying exploits of American Businessmen in areas of West Africa still recovering from the ravages of civil war.

March 2012, Dean was asked to shoot some pickup shots for the film, “the Truth”. Soon to be released by Sony Pictures.

April, 2012, Dean Directed the Feature Film, "Stuck Out Side of Phoenix". The film is based of the band, "The Refreshments" rise to fame in the early 90's from the Tempe Arizona Music Scene.
