The works of the Cuban artist Conrado Maleta' are like an index for reading the nature of men's soul, creating images that push the boundaries between narrative and the visual codes of a particular opera.
Looking at the cultural background of the photographer illuminates the sources of inspiration that are present in his works; the powerful influences of soviet culture, the expressive cinematography of director Sergei Paradzhanov, and having had a profound journey of learning and self-discovery in his years of living in Europe and Middle East.
His images are an open gate not only to the imagination, but to the emotional landscape of the model in front of the camera as well. The main project for years of career, under the name of Looking for a new Adam breaks the wall of contemporary aestheticism, becoming a body of works that raises the flag of the Neo-Baroque. It is a monument to a sensible and clever visual poetry. But it is relevant to notice that the way of create even if it is accurate and organized can also be like a coin with two faces. One of them is technically precise, sharp, even academic but the other side it is filled with total freedom in the research of a certain voluptuousness. It is an art fabricated with the intention of being sophisticated. The need to discover, understand and explain the meaning of manhood is the central pillar that supports years of photographic work.
Every roll of film and constructed scenery, each digital pixel and performance developed in front of the camera leads us to a new planet in a different constellation with complex ideas to experience and understand. The works by Conrado Maleta' can be compelling as well as emotionally implicated in the exposure of Humanism.
