About Me

Who I Am

A New York-based (but often traveling) on-location photographer and 3D illustrator.

What I Do

My specialization is in performance and promotional photography, with a focus on production stills, cover art and marketing for entertainment. I also have years of experience in shooting portraits, private events, commercial events, conceptual work and advertising for larger organizations. Landscapes and nature macros are a personal passion, and I also do a lot of stylization and repainting for clients who require their photos to look like traditional art or to fit a specific theme. My 3D illustrations are almost exclusively within the science fiction and fantasy genres, and are often done for books or video games, or are inspired by ancient mythology.

How I Got Here

During high school, a series of coincidences landed me as a production assistant and director's intern on Spider-Man, A Beautiful Mind, The Royal Tenenbaums and a number of other major productions. I had grown up acting and working in musical theatre, so to me, it was simply a great new approach to a type of work that I had spent most of my life doing. From that point on, I was hooked. I lived and breathed film and TV for years, working as a screenwriter, AD and editor after learning how to cut trailers and promos at the Miramax/Dimension Creative Advertising Department.

I majored in Film and Visual Arts at New York University, during which time I produced and directed a number of my own independent features, shorts and music videos through Jagged Edge Films. After graduating, however, I shifted gears a bit and turned my lifelong passion for photography, which I felt allowed me the most creative freedom and responsibility, into a career heavily influenced by my background in film, theatre and visual storytelling.

In 2008, I became deeply involved in the world of digital artwork, beginning with the conceptualization of a sci-fi/fantasy universe that eventually grew into The Xilon Project. Although it started out as a hobby, I now incorporate both 2D and 3D art into my workflow, from comics and storyboarding to book and music cover/promo art, to advertising and graphic design. I also very much enjoy the art of reworking photos and have developed my own style of creative postwork.

Personal Thoughts

Regardless of what I'm shooting, or where, I absolutely love my work. I appreciate every aspect of photography and the way that it allows me to look at the world, and every time that I pick up my camera, I do my best to try new things. I truly enjoy the journey, the experience of creating art, whether for myself or for others, and there are few things more satisfying than seeing how thrilled those efforts make other people when they see the results.
