About Me

A classically trained musician, I started in photography doing product shots of musical instruments for marketing sales sheets and catalogs.

Coming from that background, it is interesting to see portraits ofpeople who use an "object" in their job, be it a musician with their instrument or an construction worker with a saw, and how very few images seem to speak to the interaction between that person and the tool they use for their work.

Part of this stems from the differing challenges of lighting a person vs that tool. I have some ideas of how to incorporate the two into photography that speaks to that relationship in a compelling way. I do have connections in the musical community, but many of them are not as comfortable in front of the camera, so a large part of my time would be giving directions. So I seek models who are at least not sky in front of the camera as I work on my visual language. A friend suggested I look here, so I figure I would give it a shot :)

I shoot and work in RAW, as I believe taking the photo is only the first step in a process that begins with the capture, then developing, finally ending with the print. I contribute to the open source community for the software I use for my developing photos, incorporating modern color science and grading into my work, which gives it a unique and distinctive look. As lighting become more available to the hobbyist, and we get used to the "Instagram aesthetic", we all need to do thing different to stand out in a organic and honest manner.

So, if you are a model who uses something else in your work: an object that you can't do what you are passionate about without that object, I think we should talk about how we can visually tell that story.

At this moment, I am open to Time for Print, although, for the right experienced model, in the right situation, I am willing to pay for time as I build up my body of work.

I am also looking to network with makeup artists who are looking to build their portfolio or are students who work experience and images for their own portfolios.

Of course, if you are an person needing some free updated work... headshots and the like. (the color of a lot of the profiles I see here scream digital five years ago-- light room presets only go so far with older sensors), feel free to hit me up as I build my "people portfolio". Or, if you have an interesting idea for a shoot but can't seem to find the photographer who will or can do it without a free, reach out and lets see what is possible.

In all, lets be professional and not waste anytime's time, from contacting each other to the end of the creative process. I do like to talk goals from the first conversation so we all know how success in the project is defined.
