Jessica Yatrofsky is wholly interested in men, and their underrepresented sexuality. Her work is often confrontational, dealing as it often does with nudity and sexual themes. In her portraiture, though, she seems to be confronting something deeper: the humanity, perhaps, in her male subjects. She elicits a sensitivity and softness rarely seen in any other venue. Her gaze is anti-commercial, and relates perhaps to our underrepresented relationship with the male form. But as a female, there is a sweet and loving energy infused into her work. "iheartboy" is an ongoing series in which Yatrofsky photographs young men in New York City. She often requests that her models be nude, thereby vulnerable and wholly honest. This work typifies the inherent challenge of the male-centric paradigm: the shoe is now on the other foot, or the camera is now in the other had, as it were.
