Jon Jaylo, as a painter, is often dubbed as an illusionist of the human subconscious. His works play around a parallel dream world in where everything is floating surreal and dancing in a contained universe inspired by poetry. According to the artist, some of his works are literally “from dreams” as he keeps a sketchpad beside his head during his sleep. At the time of his waking, he tries to chase these vague images by swiftly scribbling raw renditions of it. His paintings consist of chimerical representation of imageries, usually exhibiting soft tones, in clean, smooth renderings.His technical depictions are often varying in display and style, as if he himself is never contented with the present stature of his works. As he is very competitive in nature, his works are so too. They are constantly evolving in both idea and form, gradually maturing together with the artist himself. His art is a sound marriage of two contrasting elements, such as the technical aspect of presenting images in a musing utopia and the other conceptual half, a heavy burden of thought that which social realists normally use when presenting their sentiments for both public consumption and self reasoning. Jaylo works at scaling this balance, narrating a massively deep philosophy of thought through a theatrical rendition of intensely brilliant colors that seem to amuse its audience and present a status of intellectual complacency. His paintings, with its unique dreamy nature, must not be mistaken for random abstracted concepts. Like dreams that reflect a reversed mirror of man’s desires, fantasies, and his other subconscious self, his works are merely manifestations of knowledge, the metaphysics of his own philosophy and the resolving of experiences behind and even far beyond it."I am very much fascinated with history. I believe that this is very evident with my works, always posing this certain feeling of nostalgia. Because for me, the past and the future is like Yin and Yang. Paradoxical, and yet parallel at the same time. they are two opposite forces, but somehow, each one leads to the other. " Jaylo explains. On the full picture of it, the artist's works are masked with a dream-like feel, very inviting, yet when you go inside, there's always a puzzle to be solved. Because his works are not just depictions of visual aesthetics. His works are a research on life itself, and the enigma of thought beneath it.
