***Please Note: I'm currently in the process of re-vamping my site and will not be available to lend/work with anyone for the next few weeks - I'm going to start booking/scheduling for the summer soon so if you're interested or have any opportunities, let me know!***
Hit me up/request me as a friend on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/jeni.jaques My name is Jeni Jaques and I'm a NYC-based designer of jewelry and accessories. My line is called 'Harlow In Chains', the mission: 'Re-cycle, Re-purpose, Re-invent!'. I design jewelry, bags, shoes, gloves, hats, hairpieces; all created using 100% vintage and antique components. I am a painter, an illustrator, a stylist, a designer, a photographer and everything in-between. I've always had a love for all things vintage and antique! I've been collecting treasures from yesteryear for as far back as I can remember. My father raised me to be eco-conscious and to always consider the earth, my 'footprint', recycling and had a constant passion for creation in all forms which he passed down to me; In 2004 after my grandmother passed away, Harlow In Chains was born. I was the last woman in the family to receive her boxes of jewelry, and what everyone else viewed as junk [vintage Trifari, Napier, Listner, Coro, Monet, Sarah Coventry and even older Victorian and Deco-era pieces] I viewed as a veritable goldmine! But how could I wear a brooch every day? How could I make these gorgeous pieces relevant *today*? I decided to switch gears [and mediums] immediately and start flexing my innovative muscles. I attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (dual major: Fashion Design/Art History) and though I never took classes or instruction regarding jewelry design, I quickly found a way to revive these pieces and make wearable, unique art for myself, friends and family... That soon expanded and I became addicted to creating these one-of-a-kind pieces. I knew that within every woman there was an innate desire to feel unique, special and glamorous. I had a chance to combine my love of recycling and re-purposing items, my passion for design, my skillset as a schooled artist and my love of vintage and antique treasures! When creating a piece I incorporate my formal art training and consider color, rhythm, composition and flow. Ever-changing and constantly expanding, Harlow In Chains has spilled over into hair accessories, shoes, bags, and all corners of fashion. Clothing line is also in the works for 2012! ALL PIECES ARE ONE-OF-A-KIND! They can be completely unique to any shoot; I work closely with photographers and stylists to create a custom-tailored pieces to compliment your unique vision. As a child, while my friends were all busy talking about boys, reading Teen Bop & Tiger Beat I was at home, tearing apart my clothing, out shopping for vintage, painting my shoes and reading Harper's Bazaar. I definitely feel that all antique pieces have a soul. I love the sense of history and mystery behind the pieces and love to wonder about the journey each component has been on; how it ended up in my hands and how it will take a new path after it leaves me! I have an affinity for the decadent, the avant garde, antiques and oddities. I love Skinny Puppy as much as I love Lykke Li. My work is highly editorial and I consider it wearable art. Primarily; I am an artist and this has become the medium which I concentrate on most. I've worked with top photographers and amazing stylists and have currently been collaborating with other designers and some fantastic and extremely talented people. This port and all of my sites are in the process of a complete overhaul as I have a tremendous amount of new shoots, pieces and collections to post. [My old computer crashed and I lost about 75% of my portfolio!!]. I am looking for models, photographers and stylists who would like me to lend/style my jewelry, hairpieces, shoes, bags and other accessories for them. I'm also available for commissions/custom pieces. I'm looking for Editorial, Runway, Trunk Show, Creative Shoots, Unique Projects, TF work and tears, and am open to supplementing your clothing line with my accessories! ALL of my pieces are substantial, statement peices. I'm a designer; I don't use beads from the craft store and string them together. NO recreations/stampings used. ALL of my pieces are created using 100% authentic vintage/antique components. Unique, offbeat, avant garde and bizarre concepts entirely welcome!!! I'm willing to ship my pieces if necessary, Contact me if you're interested! Again; all one-of-a-kind pieces; highly editorial.
