I do photography as an occasional hobby.  The photos on my profile are pretty old, and they're work with friends for our own fun.  I've gone a couple years between picking up the camera with any seriousness.

I wrote this next part when I was actively practicing:

My work is informed by my long interest in dance, martial arts and acting - posture and expression are as much a part of my compositions as lighting, framing and color.  I like to create emotionally compelling or intellectually interesting images.  I'm more interested in realism than in idealized images.

If you're interested in a slightly deeper background, my mom practiced photography and there were always photos of hers around the house and at the houses of our family.  I first formally studied photography in sixth grade, including darkroom methods, and got my first Nikkormat in ninth grade.  I had access to a darkroom in college, but not since.  I found people who do an excellent job developing and printing for me, so I resisted moving to digital until 2006, but I haven't looked back.  Since I worked so long with film I tend to set up each frame as a possible keeper, though I love the ability to regularly take risks and not have to worry about wasting film and processing.
