About Me

In 2003, after a 30 year career as a nationally recognized documentary and commercial DP (director of photography), I made a transition to professional still photography. As a DP and cinematographer... both on staff at NBC News for 14 years and then freelance for another 16 years I traveled the world and created a body of work that was recognized with 2 EMMY Awards, The Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, 5- NPPA 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards, and an Academy Award nomination.

I worked consistently with Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Leslie Stahl, Cronkite, Rather, Brokaw, Jennings... and too many more. If I sound like a name-dropper... sorry, but I won't apologize for a career that was fueled by the gift of a great "eye," an amazing sense of light... natural, available, studio and artificial... and a strong appreciation for the collaborative process.

Since my professional transition... my still work has shown in galleries in Boston, NYC and Washington D.C. And although I am primarily a fine art nature and landscape photographer I am drawn on a purely aesthetic level to the female form. It is one of nature's finest works. I prefer working outdoors... the beach, forests, the middle of a city, in the rain, the sun, or in the middle of a snow storm. I dislike the sterile studio environment preferring comfortable and simple interior locations.

I've always relied on what I believe to be THE CREATIVE TRUTH AS I KNOW IT. Nothing will ever take the place of interesting composition that's properly exposed and focused, lit in a way that draws the eye to the essence of that image. I will tell you that I want to spend an hour or two with you, no cameras, a few days before the shoot. I want to learn something about you... and I presume you want to find out if I'm the real deal or just another camera-guy. I do this so that I can weave some truth about you into our images... rather than make just a photo.

I bring to photo shoots more than my Canon 1ds MkIII, 5D, and a tuna-fish sandwich. I bring the experience of a 30 year career working with the best in the documentary and commercial production industry. I bring a personal aesthetic that has been crafted over years of shooting 16 and 35mm motion picture film and every video format starting with 3/4" UMatic to digital Betacam, and 24fps with digitally processed 1080p Hi-Definition Cine-Video cameras.

The only difference now is... I'm telling stories within a single frame.
