About Me

The first time I thought I wanted to be a photographer was seeing a Depeche Mode picture by Anton Corbijn, I don’t remember when it was but I remember a special on TV about them and seeing this amazing blue picture with one of them and thinking I wanted to do that too. I didn’t go out the whole summer to buy a camera and I remember using my sister crap semi compact camera to take self portraits even though I did not have the money to develop the images.

Since then I had a love-hate relationship with photography, hate mostly because I could not afford the equipment I wanted and love just because I always felt that photography was the only way I could fully express myself.

After many years of half hearted attempts to make photography my job finally in 2006/7 I decided to give it another go buying a relatively cheap digital camera. I was pleased with the results and I started to get very good responses from people. I bought a better camera almost straightaway and since then I rarely spend a day without taking pictures.

I believe there isn’t a moment you can say that your language has developed fully but I believe I came a long way in a short amount of time and my images are definitely recognisable and my vision is definitely clear.

I am definitely interested in people but my photography does not capture reality as it is but is often a representation of internal reality. I use the language of cinema and art to tell stories that have often very strong political, ethical or sociological connotations. My images exist in the realm of art and I am interested in human emotion more than anything else. I am not very good at expressing sadness on a personal level and I think photography allows me to be in touch with that part of my personality that I would not be able to express otherwise.
