About Me

I entered photography after an "expose" that the New York Times made on me as the "Guerrilla Model". For three years I would sneak into fancy boutiques and try on $10.000 dresses and secretly photographed myself in the dressing room (I'd bring a portable - McGyver-like studio with me - lights, props, backdrops- and set it up with the speed of light). And voila- 5 min later I'd emerge with a "campaign-like" photo in my camera! This way I would "possess" the dress, without having to buy it! (although the store clerks would often throw me out or even call the Police!)

Here is Fashion TV piece about that project http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtAJY4spSVw

Since then I collaborated with the designer Bella Freud (Sigmund Freud great grand daughter) shooting her campaign at nights in dangerous locations (I didn't know they WERE that dangerous) all over the world. I got mugged several times!

My current project "Begotten" is creating the Ultimate Icons. Fashion designers I work with create unique dresses and accessories for most beautiful statues of Saints that I find in churches in the US. I visited 500+ churches, cleaned, worked in soup kitchens, just to get the access to the statues! http://themoment.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/elle-muliarchyk/

This project is my real "baby" - I do it with the deepest respect and genuine fascination of Christian faith - I think it's such a rich subject to explore and be inspired by in many ways.

My goal is to create images that make people cry, laugh, dream - without necessarily knowing why. And my most ambitious goal is to have my images remembered so well that they are displayed in the Louvre 150 years later! :-)
