When asked to write why I do what I do, and why I love doing it, I think of the old saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words” and tend to try to let my work speak for itself. But when pressed, I find the easiest way to explain is to relate it to something the individual understands. The rush a Martial Artist gets when they break a difficult board, or a Dancer gets when they perform that amazing spin or leap, or a model when they reach the end of a runway and hit the perfect pose, that’s the feeling I get when I shoot.
Even from the time I got my first camera, and was barely taller than my Dads waist shooting away with my 110 film, I was always looking for the perfect shots. When I hit the 8th grade and was able to sign out a Pentax K1000, the starter model for any photographer in that day and was finally shooting 35mm film, I was still always pursuing the “magic” picture.

It has been 25+ years since first pressing my little eye to the back of a camera, I am now much taller than my Dad, I have moved from the darkroom to the desk, from chemical trays to Photoshop, and yet the feeling is still the same. The rush I get from visually exploring life’s moments, from having the opportunity to shoot for clients with various needs and having a chance to discover that “unique angle”... with the desire to not just deliver a photo, but to tell the story with that image. Whether the final product is published in the school annuals, local newspapers, or magazines, printed and hung on walls of buildings or just enjoyed in the quiet of ones home, it is the satisfaction, that for that client, at that moment, I have captured the magic, and that is why I do what I do.
