Stonewall Jackson is a boxer, though he almost never uses this term. More often he says
fighter. “Boxing is something you do in the gym. When you step into the ring, it’s a
fight.” Either way, he went pro in 1985 and fought hard for 13 years, all the way to the
Olympic trials. Nine concussions and a family later, he has retired the license but not the training. Not for a day. Why did he stop? How far did he get? The answers are as long as they always are and don’t really matter. You may as well ask why a black man would take the name of a Confederate hero.
