If you cannot at the very least speak by phone sometime between setting up our shoot and the actual day of the shoot, please don't waste my time or yours. One thing I have found out is that if we can't work out the details and plan what we want to accomplish verbally, that nothing good will come from the actual shoot itself. I am a professional and I expect the same out of anyone wanting to work together and if you are not comfortable with a phone call working together isn't going to be any more of a relaxed atmosphere.
