About Me

James Dixon is a documentary and nature photographer based in Valdosta Ga., who can be mostly found strolling the crowds of Southeastern events. He also goes by "Catherdr," pronounced Cat Herder, at CosPlay and fantasy-themed events.

Dixon specializes in documenting what he calls "street theater" at various renaissance festivals, live performances, belly dancing exhibitions, and local happenings. He has does fantasy-theme portraits. Dixon enjoys capturing a tiny moment of time with each photo and sharing that special memory with those involved, realizing that moment can never be repeated or duplicated. Many of his photographs are unscripted, live performances that capture the flavor of the event and the people involved. He also enjoys capturing nature from generous landscapes to the smallest insects.

With the new season of renaissance festivals and belly dancing shows beginning soon, Dixon will be spending most weekends on the road. The results of his work can be found on Flickr.com and on several local and southern web sites. Two Warner Robins-based belly dancing groups and several Downtown Valdosta business' currently license some of the Dixon's work for use on their web sites. Schmap.com, an internet travel site, has also licensed a photo from the Bay Area Renaissance Festival of the popular Demzarrah Gypsies.

Dixon's future work will be based on his travels and the people he encounters and honing his digital skills.
