About Me

Detroit area internationally published and exhibited photographer specializing in dark/horror/alternative photography. I have experience working with alt models, shooting CD covers, doing costumed, goth & horror photo shoots and unusual personal/family portraits. My "studio" is the entire city of Detroit (and the surrounding area) as I feel it's the perfect backdrop for almost any occasion.

Stylistically, I'm the photographer who never leaves a shoot without dirt all over my clothes and unexplained scratches all over my body. That's because I seek to shoot my subjects from unusual angles and am often found climbing things or laying in the middle of the road.

I'm comfortable giving direction to models when needed but I also seek to bring out their true personalities (or the personalty of the character they're portraying) by collaborating with the models and sharing creative control.

Once a photo shoot is done I also provide editing services and photo manipulation to ensure that you receive the best possible photographs from your shoot.

I will travel anywhere in the US or Canada for a photo shoot but I cannot offer TF for shoots outside of my area. TF will be considered for select shoots in the Detroit area but unfortunately I can't offer TF to everyone. Photography is my passion but it also pays the bills... my rates are very reasonable, though, and I'm open to negotiating with new models.

In addition to working with models, bands, etc. I also have a large portfolio of Fine Art & Dark Art/Horror Photography. 93.9 FM The River selected me as their Artist of the Month for June 2010 based on my Fine Art Photography portfolio. I was also selected as a runner-up for the 2010 Horror Artist of the Year by the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards. Please review the credits list below for information on where my work has been published and exhibited and where I'll next be appearing as an artist guest.

More information is also available on my Facebook fan page at http://www.facebook.com/aprilataylorphotography

(A quick note on nude photoshoots -- I only offer them to female models/clients)

"We've worked with a lot of photographers - April is a unique talent. She gets it. She understands what makes a photograph work - what makes it gruesomely good. Bloody fantastic work. Always. A real pro." - Eriq Chang, Nightmare Gloves

"April [A] Taylor's work isn't just fun for horror fans - it's art photography with heart." - Wes, TheBloodSprayer.com

"The genre of horror – and zombie lore in our case – is a picture-perfect setting for some extreme and uniquely creative work. One of the best examples this writer has seen is the work of April A Taylor, a photographer from Detroit, Michigan. ...Ms. Taylor has both a keen eye for fashioning a haunting setting, as well as the ability to create fine pieces of art from these scenes. Her style is one upon itself, to which has resulted in a large collection of stunning work." - Dan, Zombies & Toys

"The photos are ethereal, beautiful and at the same time; well... quite disturbing." - Laura Jajko, American Frame

"Quite stirring." - David (Evil Dave) Jackola, The InsideOutcast

"I love your photographs because they create a mood and they make me want to study them." - Jeani Rector, The Horror Zine

"...Her photography is shocking in the sense of how graphic the pictures are. The angles are incredibly stylized, which only enhances the beauty of each photo; it sort of reads like a comic book... The subject of each photo is incredibly haunting and very morbid..." - Rick, The Paradise of Horror

"...And we [women] can certainly produce provocative works that walk the line of controversy while still maintaining artistic integrity- which is why I’m into April A Taylor’s killer art." - Boris, GoresTruly.com

"Big Gay Horror Fan has found a new goddess and her name is April A Taylor. ...her individual series of images unfold before you with purpled beauty and the rich dynamism of your favorite horror films. ...[she's a] brilliant artist." - Brian Kirst, BigGayHorrorFan.com

"I love the details in her work. The wedding ring on the killer, the blood on the victim’s out-reached hand. Good stuff!" - De7en, GoresTruly.com

"Great work! I love the colors." - Heather Langenkamp, A Nightmare on Elm Street 1, 3 & 7
