About Me

Gilbert A. Chagoury is an independent couturier who was born in Lebanon and raised in Paris. He is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design in both Paris and New York, and began his extensive career working at the storied Christian Dior in Paris.

Five years ago, Chagoury was asked to create a custom wedding gown for a European Heiress who was getting married in an extravagant Monte Carlo wedding. This Heiress had admired his unique design aesthetic and wanted only him to create her dress. This wedding gown, which featured an extravagant, hand beaded, sixty foot train, was so exquisite and intricately executed that Chagoury was commissioned to create numerous other wedding and evening gowns. Word traveled fast and Chagoury quickly cultivated a following in Paris and the Middle East.

This acclaim and subsequent buzz around the Chagoury name made its way to the New York & Hollywood communities, where high profile socialites, tastemakers, and celebrities soon became fans. In 2008, two Chagoury Couture creations were worn by Actress Natasha Henstridge at the St Jude Runway for Life Gala, which inspired an on-going partnership between Chagoury and St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Chagoury’s high profile clientele helped establish him as being one of the most sought after couturiers on the West Coast. Chagoury has long been fixated on the glamour of Los Angeles and is now focusing on the debut of his eponymous label and flagship atelier, which is set to open in Beverly Hills in April 2010.

Chagoury’s heritage, from his Middle Eastern descent to his upbringing in Paris holds great influence over his general design philosophy: style is a true mixture of cultures. Chagoury’s creations evoke both the Middle Eastern extravagance and the subtle French refinement. For his first American collection, Chagoury’s inspiration is drawn from the spirit of rebirth in spring; fittingly, Chagoury has drawn upon his own rebirth and experiences of a new life in Los Angeles.

The Spring 2010 collection from Chagoury Couture signifies the purity of a new beginning and will therefore be presented for the very first time in Beverly Hills. The theme encapsulates elegance, femininity, romanticism and glamour. Pleated chiffon, silk, and lace are sculptured to complement and flatter the woman’s body.

Ideally situated in the heart of the Beverly Hills “Golden Triangle,” the airiness of the Chagoury Couture showroom is designed to encourage creativity and inspiration for both designer and client. Framed by the oversized storefront window full of light, the space features an elegant sky mezzanine and serene, private boudoir under a grand staircase, pitch-perfect for an intimate yet free-spirited experience for a discerning clientele. Looking up to the mezzanine, clients will be able to see into the studio filled with seamstresses and pattern-makers, creating a behind-the-scenes peek into the construction & assembly of their custom dress.

Chagoury’s vision, in the design of the atelier and the beginning of Chagoury Couture, is to create a new paradigm in fashion, melding the sensibility of American women with the refinement of French haute couture. Intrinsic to this vision is the style of personalized service, including one-on-one personal consultations in order to construct custom masterpieces tailored to each client’s body and exacting standards.
