Loves! Oasis, BC Wine, Hot Fuzz

On Photography: I'm not one for debating the merits and meanings of photography and art… actually, that's wrong. I love to talk about art and images, but what is important to me is that a photograph is not simply a representation of something else, but that it is a meaningful object all on its own. They say the camera doesn't lie, but we can chose what our pictures show. I love how John Steinbeck put it, "I hate cameras. They are so much more sure than I am about everything." It's not the quality of the camera that can elevate a photograph to stature of art, it's the quality of the person behind it.

Style? I love working with fun people in great locations, creating images that have character, story, and feeling. I like to feel a little bit of rock and roll in my work.

Where do I work? I'm lucky enough to live and work in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, and I have photographed destinations as far away as Jamaica. Nanaimo is close to great destinations like Vancouver, Victoria, Tofino and Kelowna, and it's great to be able to easily work all over the province. The best thing about living here is that any shoot can look like a destination shoot!

What else? I've got 2 great dogs, an evil cat, and an awesome wise, Lisa, oh yeah and a parrot named Tikko. I've been a musician for many years, and still love performing and recording when I get the chance. It's crazy how many similarities there are between music and photography. There is something about being in the moment as a performer that mirrors the experience of distilling life through a lens.
