About Me

Ted is a Connecticut native residing in Uncasville, graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1965 and Thames Valley State Technical Institute (now Three Rivers) in 1967 with an Associate’s Degree in Tool and Manufacturing Technology.  He was employed by Pratt & Whitney in a metallurgical research lab until 1969 when he joined the USN Submarine Service and served aboard the Navy’s last diesel boat, the USS Blueback SS581.  Ted returned to Pratt & Whitney in 1971 and soon became an avid sailor.  In 1981 he left Pratt to sail to the Caribbean with future wife Karin Hagelin on their 28-foot sloop Sea Foam.  They were married in 1983 and continued working together aboard charter and private yachts, Ted as full-time USCG-licensed captain and Karin as mate and cook, for most of the next six years.  After moving ashore in 1989 Ted retired from Thomas Faria Corp. in Uncasville where he was Customer Service Manager for 18 years providing customer support for instrumentation products.
Among his hobbies are photography, cooking, drumming, sailing and motorcycling.  After a short introductory to art class Ted began taking lessons in the early spring of  2006 studying oil portraiture and figure drawing under Christopher Zhang and  Jack Monmeat and most recently Claudia Post and has been striving to expand his horizons since.
Ted is an Associate Artist at the Lyme Art Association.  He is a member of the Slater Museum in Norwich, The Norwich Art Center, Hygienic Art Inc. in New London,  a prior Elected Artist at the Mystic Museum of Art and former president of New London Art Students League.  He has hung photos, pencil drawings, and oils in various juried shows and has won numerous awards from honorable mention to first place.  He has shown in the prestigious NYC Salmagundi Club’s open juried show in 2016. Ted is staying true to his desires in continuing to hone skills, technique and development of his style in various media, primarily oil on canvas and most recently experimenting with gold leaf.
