At the age of 15 Mel Tait first picked up a camera, little realising that this was to be a watershed moment in her life. "I was completely spellbound the first time I heard the shutter click," recollects Tait of that day. "Being so captivated by image making from this point on, I enrolled in the photography course offered by my high school for years 10, 11 and 12."
For Australian-born Tait, the creative fire had been lit, so it was a natural choice once school days were over to further her photographic studies. Tait achieved a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in photography, via Newcastle University in 1994.Renowned for her fearless, curious nature, and keen to test her skills on a big stage, Tait then headed for the US. During her 6yr stay, she was able to hone her learning by applying her knowledge as a stills photographer in the areas of commercials, music videos, and movies.pon her return to Australia, Tait embarked on another course of study, further building on her already considerable photographic qualifications. Through Griffith University she achieved a Bachelor of Photography, majoring in creative advertising photography, in 2004.
