About Me

Blain Brown is a director/writer/cinematographer and photographer based in Los Angeles. He has been the director of photography on features, commercials, music videos, industrials and other types of projects. He has directed features, commercials and music videos and has had three screenplays produced.

Educated at Harvard Graduate School of Design and M.I.T, he was a commercial still photographer in New York before getting into film production, which he has been doing for 26 years, as a cinematographer, director, writer and producer.

His books include “Motion Picture and Video Lighting” “Cinematography: Theory and Practice” “The Filmmaker’s Pocket Reference” and “A Sense of Place.”

The cinematography book is used as a textbook at over 60 film schools and film programs throughout the US, including USC, AFI, NYU, BU and many others. The lighting book is also used as a textbook in many film departments. The books have been published in twelve languages.
