My love for fashion design runs deeper than just the glamorous facade of the runway. May it be drawing, painting or writing, my natural pursuit for the creative arts has not been an easy climb. I truly believe in my talent and my work ethic.
My young career has included interning at small and big design companies in Philadelphia, such as Paula Hian and Notations. I also competed and won various fashion design competitions including the 'Dare to Design Your Future' competition sponsored by Fashion Group International, as well as the NICONN Creative Designer Grant in 2007. After graduating, I relocated back to Baltimore where I briefly worked as an assistant at a Federal Hill boutique called 'Remember When'. Like many ambitious entrepreneurs, I faced with the reality that in order to really break into this industry, I will have to create the opportunity for myself.

My clothing label AFORI by Awasum, is an acronym for Attitude Forever Reflects Image. My aesthetic motivates me to create clothing that strives to merge what I call my 'Camerican' (Cameroon+American) culture. “I want to make ethnic-influenced clothing that doesn't have to be placed into the category of just 'tribal'”. My customer is an eclectic woman or man on the go, edgy yet contemporary. The clothing company just started in 2010, and is now positioning itself to make a colorful splash in the fashion world.
