About Me

Clifford Ryan is a nom de plume. My real name is Brian Henning, but that name was already in use on MM so I was asked to choose a new name. So if answer any correspondence with "Brian Henning, it's is because that is my real name.
I am a photographer with 15 years experience. I teach night classes in photography and Photoshop at New Mexico Junior College and am a Family Nurse Practitioner in a local community clinic during the day. About four times a year I put on themed photo shoot seminars for students primarily covering portrait/portfolio, fashion, and fine art photography. I do portfolio work and I am open to putting together shoots for a specific look a model may have in mind to expand their portfolio. I am creative with lighting, experienced with posing models, and glad to work with models to build a shoot they will be happy with.

I will trade time for pictures if the model has some new ideas or is willing to work as a model in a seminar shoot for students; the model can be inexperienced or experienced. This means I will shoot a portrait, portfolio, or other shoot you would like and, as compensation for my photography, you will model for a student seminar. (Otherwise, rates will vary with the complexity of the shoot.)

I pay experienced models and hair and make up artists for seminar shoots, but will typically recruit those people myself through casting calls. If you are interested in working a seminar shoot for pay, are an experienced model or hair & make up artist, and willing to work with students and inexperienced models, please contact me at [email protected] or through MM.

My photo shoot seminars are fraught with the fun and mistakes that accompany working with students. We don't always get the perfect shot, but we have fun and get a lot of practical experience with every shoot. If I am photographing a shoot for you personally, students will rarely be involved. It will still be fun and productive, but the results will be much more predictable and consistent.

A note regarding escorts/chaperones. I have no objection to a model bringing an escort/chaperone with her/him to a shoot, but there are rules. Most of my seminar shoots involve more than one model and a set full of photographers, grips, models, cosmetologists, costume and set designers, etc., so you are never alone with a photographer. These shoots typically last 4 to 6 hours (sometimes longer) and I bring with me all the help I need. Where I appreciate that your escort/chaperone may just be offering to help out, your escort/chaperone will be relegated to the wings (sidelines) of the shoot so they are out of the way of all the people working the set. This is for their safety and for the safety of those on the set. They should bring something unobtrusive to help occupy their time. (Low light and non-audible things requiring no electricity to use are best.) I provide food, drink and protection from the elements for the shoot. People involved with the shoot will have priority--I don't mind an escort/chaperone having a bottle of water or juice or eating a sandwich in a corner out of the sun. I mind very much an escort/chaperone who over-indulges. There will be areas on the set where your escort/chaperone will not be allowed--even if you are there. Examples include in the photo frame, in hair and make up, or in a space set up for models to change. If your escort/chaperone becomes an obstacle on the set, you will be required to leave the set with your escort/chaperone.
