John Cousert prefers learning from experience and studying on his own to formal training. Both as a photographer and a BMX freestyle rider, he honed his craft by studying the work of others and experimenting.Though he’d always had an interest in photography, John’s skills didn’t take off until he purchased his first DSLR camera and began to play.

His photography interests are twofold. On the one hand, he enjoys capturing things in their natural state, shooting things as they happen. On the other hand, this self-proclaimed “gadget junky” loves flash photography and trying various lighting techniques to get unique shots.

His style can be classified as creative portraiture. He constantly changes his approach to take interesting photos. He lights his subjects in different ways and from different angles to get a variety of looks. He likes to capture things that people may not see at first glance.
