Monique M. McDowell also known as Jasira Monique was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a poet, author, songwriter, plus size model and rising entrepreneur that graduated from Howard University with a B.B.A. in International Business. The 2004 Who’s Who Amongst American Students in Colleges and Universities award recipient is indeed a woman on the move.

The iLive Campaign was launched to serve as a safe haven for people suffering with mental health issues and seeking help. Monique designed the iLive Campaign to help once resistant and ashamed persons affected by the stigma of mental health issues to live healthy, happier and more fulfilling lives and to promote suicide prevention. The iLive Campaign’s founder is also now the new Ms. Florida Plus America 2012 and overall high point winner. In her new role, she will make a statewide tour to promote the importance of mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

Monique believes in using her talents to tell her story and to help others. This new rising literary starlet’s poetry and book, Bruised Kisses, have been featured on local news and radio shows such as WXEL South Florida Artsview, Channel 9 News in Denver; online publications such as Inscribed magazine, Sporty Mommas.com and events throughout the nation’s capital Washington, DC; Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico and South Florida. Most recently, she’s embraced her career as a spoken word artist and motivational speaker. Her talent has been featured and requested at various inspirational events for women’s empowerment, families and spiritual gatherings to promote personal growth & development. Gifted at written expression, Monique uses her creative writing and introspection to help others identify ways they can enhance their lives as well as those around them by being their personal best. Additionally, her highly anticipated upcoming book of poetry, Woman on the Move is scheduled to be released this year.

As an avid volunteer, Monique’s travels and international volunteerism in Manila, Philippines and Hong Kong and Zhangjiajie, China has forever enhanced her perspective of the human impact of compassion. Upon graduation, she worked as a Distribution Analyst for a year at Payless ShoeSource Inc. corporate headquarters located in Topeka, Kansas. During her tenure at Payless, Monique kept true to her passion in the community and served United Way of Topeka, March of Dimes and Brown vs. Board of Education. Also, she served as a mentor for a resident of the girl’s shelter, Florence Crittenton, for at-risk youth in Topeka. Monique previously resided in Aurora, Colorado and worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in downtown Denver. While in Colorado, she participated in several community service activities such as United Way Bridging the Gap, Junior Achievement, Art from Ashes, Especially Me and serving as a Junior Achievement teacher for a day. Monique is presently working on developing her craft as a model, poet and motivational speaker by booking events throughout the United States and abroad.
