About Me

When I was a young boy at the age of 10 or so I was given a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera by my father which took 6 X 6 cm images on 620 roll film. This was my first introduction to photography which shaped my focus and interest for many years to come. With that camera, I started to take pictures of my brothers, sister, dog and the neighborhood which was a Canadian Forces base that was located at CFB Chatham, New Brunswick. I got involved with The Air Cadets and was mentored by one of the base photographers that sold me a 6 X 6 cm Durst enlarger, which I set up in my basement where I was treated to the magic of watching my very first black and white print materialize in front of me in a tray of Kodak Dektol print developer. It was at that very point, as I recall that I was hooked on photography for life.

From there I went on to study photography during a summer Air Cadet Camp at Canadian Forces base Borden, Ontario for six weeks. During High School I got involved with contributing to the Year Book and won the competition for best submitted photograph. When I graduated from High School in 1979 I moved to Ottawa, Ontario where I studied Film Production at Algonquin College and graduated with a special 3 year honorary diploma in 1982.

During the summer of 2011 I had the unique opportunity to be the gaffer and chief lighting technician for a local period piece film called “Percy Harris” that was shot with Canon HDSLR cameras in the Ottawa area.

In the span of my professional photography career over the last 20 years, I have had the pleasure to photograph some of the Judges that have sat on the Supreme Court of Canada, produce a Fire Fighter Calendar to raise funds to support the Muscular Dystrophy association as well as get published in different magazines and work with many different local businesses.

Photographers that have inspired me and have influenced me over the years are, just to name a few; Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts, Francesco Scavullo, Gregory Heisler, Greg Gorman and Jay Maisel.

I like simple clean photography, which captures and evokes a mood that tells the viewer a compelling story about the subject that was photographed. I am passionate about light and find it always humbling to see how it interplays with humans and objects to define and shape them in some very interesting ways. What is most gratifying and special for me is the process of putting all my attention, creativity, thoughts and experiences together into a single idea and then realizing it by working with a selected group of people who also bring their own vision and unique ideas to the project. The experience is like no other when what you are trying to achieve comes together and there is a feeling and energy that you are part of something truly special that just happened.

My interest in joining Model Mayhem is to establish professional working relationships with local models to produce some strong and compelling imagery by putting together a great team of people, ranging from the model, stylist, hair and makeup artist. If you are interested in a professional environment to produce amazing images and you feel that you have the talent to contribute to that end I would love to hear from you.
