About Me

Roxann Remekie is a multi-talented storyteller. A native New Yorker raised and influenced by her Jamaican roots, her job is to embody characters that put a mirror to life’s realities.

Roxann has worked as an executive assistant for world-renowned companies including Goldman Sachs, Atlantic Records and NAMIC, Inc. While earning her stripes at GS, she simultaneously studied acting at William Esper Studios; directing, writing and production at the Labyrinth Theater Masters Series; and voice, speech and Shakespeare intensive two-year training with Shane Ann Younts, head of New York University Graduate Drama Voice and Speech Program.

Her acting career is off to a solid start. CNN called her to find America’s Most Wanted for The Hunt with John Walsh. Other credits include: Vh1 Hip Hop Honors (Viacom), “BK Live” Interview (BRIC Arts Media), Hidden Heroes (CBS), The One that Got Away Promo (FYI), Stalked: Someone's Watching (Discovery ID), Green Grass All Around, (37th St. Productions), The Moment (One Race Films), Sides‚ and Date Night. Theater: Julius Caesar (BAM, Royal Shakespeare Company). Fabulation, or the Re-education of Undine (Brave New World Repertory, Brooklyn) and Art. Love. Life: The Cypha (37th St. Productions).

“When I entered back into the entertainment industry from the performance side, I was very confused,” she reflects. “Coming from a space where my ideas were considered and respected (to an extent), I noticed actors had very little power.” So, she began writing. In 2013 Roxann penned Art. Love. Life: The Cypha an auto-biographical theater play where the main character (Reign) goes on a introspective journey challenging herself and the audience, to fly. Written in prose with dance, song and live drum accompaniment from the popular Afro-Caribbean band The Brown Rice Family, the critically- acclaimed piece made its rounds through the black box theater circuit, culminating at the Actors Fund Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Whilst in development Roxann traveled back to her roots, penning the screenplay Cracked. With the help of friends and family, Roxann spent a month in Blue Mountains, Jamaica writing a screenplay, high up in a mango tree-house. “I had a short film that I wanted to extend to a feature, but realized when I got there, it was more about ego, so I scrapped it.” The script tells a tale of another young woman discovering her demons and understanding how to manage her family history and generational habits. Other writing credits include Green Grass All Around (web episodic pilot), Dreamcatcher, and ode to Flint, Michigan water crisis (short film in pre-production).

With several completed bodies of work and a core understanding of production, in 2014 Roxann Remekie founded 37th St. Productions. Named after the street where she once worked for NAMIC, Inc., it’s mission is to create relevant and engaging content for film, television and theater that authentically reflects the lives of Afro/Caribbean and first generation-Americans. Within 37th St. Productions, Roxann plans to co-produce both writing works and also music. “Writing those plays and that film brought out something in me, and I realized I can write music too.” Most recently she’s been in the studio composed tracks with indie-guitarist Mark Marlinski.

To fund her creative explorations, Roxann has been in numerous commercial ads (Nippon Airways, Budlight [Superbowl], Brooklyn Academy of Music, Publisher’s Clearing House). This past winter she graced the stage, the court that is, of Barclays Center singing the national anthem for the Brooklyn Nets.

But with all these strides, Roxann’s humble priorities have always remained front and center. Recently acquiring the house of her late mother, she’s using her hobbies to re-create a new place to call home. Always one for unique, personalized decoration and cuisine; Roxann has also picked up gardening, she’s excited to entertain in her newly renovated space with close family and friends in the future.

Roxann earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management (Marketing, Music Industry) at Syracuse University.
