Bio:

Julie Bégin figures amongst that select group of makeup artists sought by the most important names in the world of fashion and entertainment. For two decades she has pursued a remarkable journey of makeup artistry throughout North America, Asia and Europe. Her acute understanding of aesthetic trends and her great versatility in techniques distinguishes her from her peers. In both her professional and personal life, Julie Bégin manifests highly refined adaptive skills to the people, cultures and environments that she is called to work with.

Among her clients are fashion designers Balenciaga, John Galliano and Mark Jacobs. Photographers Mick Rock, Floria Sigismondi and Ellen von Unwerth regularly call upon her talent. Julie has worked on editorials for such diverse magazines as W, Rolling Stone and ELLE. She excels at revealing and enhancing the traits of classical beauty as well as those of unusual faces.

Her uncanny skills and flair for makeup are sought after by leading international cosmetic houses. She has contributed to the advertising campaigns successes of Giorgio Armani beauty and Chanel beauté amongst many others. Julie Bégin has led training seminars for M.A.C. cosmetics and from 2001 to 2011 she served as creative consultant and official makeup artist for Marcelle and then Annabelle, 2 cosmetic line sold exclusively in Canada.

In 2009, she made an incursion into the creative world of the Cirque du Soleil as a member of the concept design team for their newest show called OVO. She contributed her unbridled imagination to the creation of the 50 insect-inspired characters that comprise the show. Julie Bégin notes: “This uncommon experience has not only enriched my creative approach to the art of makeup, most notably through the use of techniques borrowed from the visual arts, but it has also created an enormous potential for developing my work.”

The quality and diversity of her accomplishments are partly attributable to her interest in the history of photography and architecture as well as her passion for contemporary art. Her extensive world travels combined to her sharp sense of observation as regards nature and cultures also contribute to her creative process.

Determined to further her creative exploration, she seeks collaboration with artists who are open to innovation, apt to take calculated risks, and who welcome being on that cutting edge, challenging current dogma and conventional ideas.

Julie Bégin has been based in New York since 1998.
