About Me

For a vast majority of the past one hundred and sixty years or so, people like me have shot on film. I love film - the grain, the texture, the richness of colors, and the warmth. But film was a cruel mistress - delicate to work with, difficult to manipulate and expensive to just casually play with.

As with everything though, time marches on and progress is made. So now most of the time, we shoot on digital. It is faster, more forgiving, easier to light and no more expensive from a material standpoint to shoot two hundred photos than a mere two. However, it is our opinion that the "ease" and "availability" of digital has led to many flat, heavily manipulated and just plain unattractive photos because why plan when you can just keep clicking?

We are a small company that began as a narrative film and video cinematography outfit. Starting out, we were shooting film projects on 16mm, Super 16mm and Super 8mm as well as still shots on 35mm. We were forced to learn how to light impeccably and work for the perfect shot, because for many of these projects, we often could not afford very many takes. There was no attitude of "we can fix it in post."

As technology advanced, so too have our opportunities and we have been shooting an extensive amount of still photography for the past 18 months. Much of this was commercial, business and landscape shots though. During that time, we have discovered that by applying the same principles honed with finicky film to the latest and greatest cameras, we can make digital photography look organic and layered, instead of flat and plasticky. Most of the time without post. We believe that you have a camera and extraordinary talent to make a photo. Post should be for enhancement, not to remedy or otherwise create subpar photos.

So we are looking to expand our photography practice and would love to use Model Mayhem to reach great models. We will still adhere to an approach of shooting as if we had film loaded instead of a card. We would rather spend a shoot getting a handful of high quality images rather than a whole lot of nearly worthless images. We also believe that every photo taken should strive to tell a story or a reveal another, previously unseen facet of a model.

That is our way of saying we are looking to work with motivated models who value quality over quantity and want to create photos that exceed the limitations of single image, rather than embrace it.

We also still do a lot of narrative film and video work, for those that are interested in acting. For those projects, we traditionally pay but that pay is based upon talent, not necessarily experience. For still photos, we are currently looking to do as much TF as possible, but are willing to discuss other arrangements. This is our way of saying we take everything on a case by case basis. And while I am the photographer/cinematographer, I have a business partner that accompanies me on all shoots. She is there to assist any and all models and handle the releases, data exchange, etc.

In the very near future, we will be shooting in New York City, Philadelphia, Atlantic City and New Orleans as well as our local area. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in working with us, and we will always respond. Thanks for looking at our stuff and good luck to everyone trying to make it out there.
