About Me

ABOUT

Life has led me to travel and live for the past 9 years amongst so many diverse cultures. From Baltimore to Florida, London and around Europe, to the back country of New Zealand, to Southeast Asia and China--all of these places have influenced my art and my eclectic fashion sense. My vision is to merge art with fashion, enhancing the possibilities of creative expression through personal style--all the while keeping it eco-friendly, comfy, sexy, and distinctive. I have been given the opportunity to embody the answer to the question, "What would you do if you could do anything?" In between doing yoga, walking outside, and crafting in the kitchen, I love to find ways of expressing myself through multifaceted forms of art. The "fashion illustrations" that I once drew as a child are now a part of my process, serving as blueprints of what will become a reality. The ink doodles that once decorated the margins of my school notebooks are now the foundation of my hand-drawn artwork printed on my apparel designs. If you had asked me when I was a student where I would be today, I would have guessed "writer" or "teacher." But the universe tends to guide us toward our true passions. So of course I should be this creator of "WEARable, STAREable" art. I'm grateful that the nature of life leads us to where we belong if we listen and allow it to guide us.

INSPIRATIONS

I am inspired by the thoughts and images that I must sift through in order to reach a place of stillness within myself. Creating art is a way for me to work through emotions. Attached to these emotions are dreams, ideas, encounters--all of these manifest themselves on the page as I draw, in both literal and abstract forms. Looking at it this way, I have to say that EVERYTHING has the potential to inspire. I am often surprised by how something seemingly so small and insignificant can stand out so vividly in its reminiscence. I want to add, I was recently inspired by a quote from photographer Sally Mann, on the subject of her dog bone photographs, "I just go around and pick up whatever is around. It's very spontaneous . . . and then some cynical, post-modern critic will come along and ask, 'What do you suppose it means?' . . . But these dog bones are just making art the way art should be made, I think, without any overarching reference. Just for fun, if you can imagine that. Art for fun--sometimes it IS fun." I can dig deep and really search for what drives my art, but sometimes its just more rewarding to accept that its enjoyable to create and satisfying to see.
