Screenwriter/producer Jake Helgren graduated from St. Edward’s University in Texas with a bachelor’s in Creative Writing in 2007. Since moving to Los Angeles in early 2008, he has already sold four specs and had three features produced, in addition to thirteen options/hired rewrites from a number of independent producers including a co-producer on The Painted Veil. Helgren's talents are primarily focused on horror/thriller and comedy genres, and his first feature—a screwball romantic comedy—shot in 2011 in Big Bear with Nandar Entertainment and Proteus Pictures, and was bought by Fabrication Films for distribution. His second feature—a teen horror film—filmed in 2011 in Austin, Texas with DAVED Productions, while his third feature—a teen dance movie—filmed this summer in Los Angeles which he also produced. Helgren has also sold DAVED a holiday romantic comedy spec geared for TV he is attached to produce as well, and currently has a horror/thriller feature in development with Harbinger Pictures, the company who produced Dreamworks’ huge hit The Help, as well as two more features—another TV-geared holiday romantic comedy and a horror creature feature—in development with Clear Pictures Entertainment, the production company behind Dimension Films’ upcoming The Devil’s Knot starring Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth.
