About Me

My name is Jasmine Perez and I am a citizen of the virgin islands. At present I am 23 years of age but will be 24 by august. I was born on June 21st 1988 unfortunately to only my mother. My father had passed away during the pregnancy. Though it may have been a tragedy I must say that I have lived a very blessed life and truly believe that all things happen for a reason.
I was born in Columbus Georgia United States but moved with my grandmother to the island of St. John, United States Virgin Islands when I was only 3weeks old. When I was 9 years of age my grandmother decided that she wanted to move back to the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Naturally she brought along me, my brother and my sister. My mother soon followed. I attended the Althea Scatliffe Primary school and the British Virgin Islands high school where I was active in the drama and dance societies as well as any other program that I could fit into my schedule. Through these programs and groups I was able to see counties such as Trinidad, Dominica and Suriname. These experiences have helped me to find a love for traveling.
After high school I returned to the United Stated and studied Health and physical education at Virginia state university wile worked for Olan mills portrait studio as an associate photographer. At this time I was an active member of the Caribbean students association (VSU chapter) and in turn became president of the association in my junior year. I was also involved in community projects through my admiration of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority Inc. Due to circumstances beyond my control I was not able to be a member of this sorority and so myself and some likeminded young women came together to start the ladies of SASS(LOS). SASS is an acronym for smart ambitious strong and successful which were our aspirations as young women. When LOS began I was the Vice president and the group got together and did community projects such as clean ups, tutoring and youth outreach through being big sister volunteers.
Due to a twist in faith and a bit of bad luck, I returned home to the Virgin Islands in 2009, without my degree and not sure how I would be able to finance the rest of my education. It just so happened that I had returned home in time to sign up for the Miss BVI pageant. One of the prizes was a 4 year scholarship to the school of my choice. I placed 1st runner-up that year and though I did not receive the scholarship I got so much more.
Due to the publicity provide by the pageant I was offered the opportunity to host fashion shows, television programs, and radio broadcasts. I also was able to start a branch of the Ladies of SASS in the Virgin Islands. Exposure to the communication field was the push that I needed. I switched my focus from health and decided to pursue communication. By 2010 I had already switched from being a medical assistant and went back to being a photographer. This time for the government information services of the British Virgin Islands. LOS was also functioning and expanding, as well as being recognized in the community. As the 1st runner-up 2009, I traveled to St. Vincent to compete in the Miss Carival pageant. I did not place in that pageant but I did win the interview segment. When I came back from St. Vincent I decided to try one more time for the title of MISS BVI and once again came 1st runner-up.
Since then I have gone on to working in radio. Starting in one radio station selling ads and writing commercials, until I got the offer to do my own radio show for 10am- 1pm Monday-Friday ZVCR 106.9fm. I teach a photography class for high school students. The ladies of SASS make 3 year on the 17th August 2012 and two new chapters are expected to be established this year, one in Guyana and the other in Trinidad. As for my degree I am still working on it from home when I can afford to take the classes online but my goal is to finished by the end of 2013. I have also started a small promotion business called BELLE ENTERTAINMENT and that takes the place of a hobby.
I am a very motivated individual and truly believe that the sky is my limit. I am a social butterfly and so I find it amazing to meet new people. I am an avid reader and I have a healthy addiction to having fun
