There are the pictures that photographers take to pay the bills. Brides, babies, grads, etc. Then there are the shots we take because they appeal to our creative sense and allow us to explore not just capturing an image, but producing it. Shaping the light, coloring it, posing the subject, and directing the attention of the viewer. There is a reason we call it modeling.
