About Me

I’m a classically trained, figurative painter currently living in Bangkok, Thailand. I mostly work in oils but sometimes also in charcoal and pastel drawing. Though I always prefer working from life, but for practicality considering several factors (especially space of my house-turned-temporary-studio) I also make use of photography.

I often find my inspiration from the work that focus on beauty of the female form, which mostly came from 19th century academic art such as works of William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, John William Godward, and Pierre Paul Prud'hon. But recently I also find I enjoy vintage nude photography of certain photographers as well (‘Albert Arthur Allen’ or try ‘Jazz age beauties’ in Google Image search)

For my work, I considered the piece to be collaboration between me and the model. 50% of the work comes from me, and that is the skill and execution, while the model provides the inspiration, the pose and set the mood and tone for the whole piece. Sometimes I will have a concept or a direction that I will provide to the model before the shoot or modeling session and then let her ‘response’ to it. I normally don’t direct model (that much) but let her interpret the concept and came up with the pose by herself. I find it more interesting and challenging and it makes 'her' personality show through on the work which is the very reason why I choose to work with that particular model (as suppose to work solely from my own imagination or a mannequin).

Beside my figurative work I also enjoy painting and drawing portraits as well.
