About Me

Raffaele Provinciali was Born in Tuscany where he grew up before moving to Rome, where he graduated in literature, music & cinema. All along with the university courses he had his first working experiences as assistant to the director of photography on movie sets and started making his first wedding photo reportages; during the second year of college he met the well known art critic Maurizio Calvesi and came to collaborate on his magazine “Storia dell’Arte” where Raffaele published his first pictures of art works.

At this point, in 2010, Raffaele decided to specialize on photography of art works, by using his own new technology for achieving very high resolution pictures. In order to get the high quality standards that this job requires, Raffaele employs the best available equipments, like macro and architecture lens, special kind of artificial lights and a Nikon DSLR Camera, a top of the market as to now.

“There’s an important oxymoron in photographic reproduction of art, the photos need to show the opera in all its size, but also to show the details of it. In human eyes this is an automatic reflex, but indeed it is quite difficult to get the same result in photography; human eyes are a kind of “factotum” lens, they could work as a MACRO lens and in the same time as a wide-angle one. I use some high quality lights, special tilt-shift lenses, digital colorimeters, computer comparisons of the color and its vividness and some other trick”

During the time Raffaele was attending university courses and going on with his project for art photography, he also was involved with some other kind of photographic works: wedding reportage, still life photography and in the same time he continued to shoot black and white photos for a personal motivation.

Meanwhile he works on a number of different projects for fashion stylists and jewel designers, web start-up, music magazines, private clubs, press agencies and others. Thanks to all this work he succeeded to apply almost same settings of art photography to jewels and precious stones photography.
