I am a Thinker, Challenger and a Survivor

Curiosity. That was the beginning. South Korea was not so big enough to satisfy one 15-year-old Korean girl, nicknamed Lidya, who would always seek something new to explore. So, I boarded on a plane to Malaysia leaving family behind. When I was back in Korea after junior high school graduation, I presented a report titled ‘The Reasons Why I Should Study at a High School in Canada’ to mom and flew to Canada.
After graduation, I presented another report, thicker than the last one, titled ‘The Reasons and Benefits of Me Backpacking in Europe’ to ‘not this time!’ looking mom. After three months in Europe, I flew to Brazil and travelled around South America for another 3 months.

In Brazil, I saw a boy, possibly 6 years old, being beaten up by two ladies because he was trying to rob. I was shocked not just because seeing ladies beating up a child but because the numbers of people around them ignored it as if it was a frequent occasion. After the ladies left, the boy cried with despair in his eyes and looked around for help, but there was no one to soothe him or at least to blame and correct his wrongdoing. I wished I could help but I didn’t know what to do. I was a mere backpacker. I was sad when I realized that I had no power to give him a happy and safe childhood. And it would have been a lie if I was to tell him that it is going to be okay. On the same night, I met children who were in the similar situation as the boy at least over 30. With a pity to the society that allowed this kind of affair to happen, I realized that I was one of those highly privileged ones who were allowed to pursue their dream.

And then I thought, ‘I want to be a dream-giver for those who are not capable of having one, like the boy I met in Brazil. Then I better pursue my dream until I reach to the very top at first so that I can tell others about how fantastic it is to get there.’

As one of the steps to bring my dream to reality, I flied to Australia for working holiday. I have a university that I want to go in Denmark and I need some budget to sustain my living and pay for tuition there. I could have chosen to stay in South Korea to work but I chose Australia instead. The reason being, I desire something more than money, something more challenging that can enhance me to a better and stronger being! And this is why I am here.


So, YES!
I am ready because I am a Thinker, Challenger and a Survivor
