Facebook: www.facebook.com/Imari Alaji Instagram: @imarialaji Hey Everyone! I want to pursue a modeling career, and I hope that this site can give me the right kind of networking to acheive that goal. I am shorter than most models but I am a hard worker, very professional, and I have a passion for what I do. I recently moved to NYC to continue to broaden my horizons in my background in dance, acting and music. I want to continue to build my portfolio, gain more experience as well as meet new people. Please contact me through messaging if interested in working with me thanks! Imari N'taja-Dia Alaji was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She knew that she would become a dynamic addition to the dance community as early as 5 years old, as she studied under the direction of Master dance instructor, Mayowa Lisa Reynolds and Penny Godboldo. She learned at an early age that dance is more than just form and movement, it is an expression of culture, history and can positively bring about social awareness and change. Her formal training began in Dunham technique and West African Dance. Imari attended and graduated from Detroit School for Performing Arts where she majored in dance and was a member of DSA's Advance Dance Ensemble. Working as a student-teacher assistant, Imari choreographed several dances that were featured in the school's annual spring concerts as well as annual kwanzaa programs around the city of Detroit. Imari can be considered as a "grassroots" dancer; from West African Dance to Ballet , she has been a featured dancer for many successful and prestigious dance companies such as P.G. Institute, Urban Bush Women (Jawole) in New York City, NY, and others. She participated in Alvin Ailey summer dance intensives, The Pyramid Performing Theater & has over seven years experience and is currently a senior member with African Drum and Dance company Ngoma za Amen-Ra. She participated at The Michigan Youth Arts Workshops; performed extensively at several elementary, middle, and high schools; as well as local events with community-serving organiztions including the DSO & The Fox Theater. After graduation, Imari continued her educational experience at Oakland University in Rochester, MI, where she studied Communications. Inspired by the privilege to sit at the feet of Master dancer Katherine Dunham, Imari enjoys reaching out to her community as an performer, activist and educator. She returned to her Detroit to teach as an Enrichment Specialist and the summer dance instructor with Detroit Edison Public School Academy. She currently works as an yoga instructor under the apprenticeship of dancer and yoga master, Kimberly Boyd of Spirit Filled Yoga and Dancing Between the Lines. She has instructed numerous dance classes around Metro Detroit at various levels. She also serves as a mentor for girls youth organizations and rite of passage programs like Duafe and The Princess of Pride Pagent. Verified Credits (0)Worked with Imari Alaji?
