About Me

I am a part time photographer who has been dabbling in the field for quite a number of years in various subject types, but is looking to become more serious now and gain a portfolio which reflects that.

I've been shooting people and doing portrait work for almost a year but really enjoy the results a well crafted photoshoot can bring. My aim in listing myself here is to discover new models that will bring about even greater rewards and increase and improve my portfolio (and hopefully yours too!).

I only shoot with film therefore due to the cost of developing and scanning from a professional lab I cannot offer financial incentives for photoshoots, but would happily provide anyone who works with me a full set of high resolution scanned images free of charge to do with as you wish - however the copyright of the images and negatives will obviously be retained by me. I post all my best and favourite work onto my Flickr page (link at the top of this page) which I look on as my online portfolio and that is where I would post any results worth showing from a photoshoot - although I would show those photos to the model in question first, depending on the nature of the shoot and the intention behind it, however the final decision on whether something that I have put a lot of time and effort (and money!) into posting online will ultimately be my decision. But I'm happy, and would prefer, to discuss arrangements beforehand so everyone knows what the outcome of a shoot will be.

At the moment I'm focussing on classic black and white studio based shots in my own flat which I use as a makeshift studio with a very basic setup; plain background, no more than two light sources, one reflector (images showing this can be seen in the 'Behind the Scenes' folder). My shoots are quite loose and organic; sometimes the best results can come from discovering something by chance rather than something deliberately staged and composed, although I do like to have some basic ideas of poses and expressions before we begin, and that can also be reflective upon the subject in question. I don't shoot fast and like to carefully consider the shot (again, because I use film and have a finite number of shots per roll) before pressing the shutter, but can also shoot candidly if I happen to chance upon a natural looking pose.

With all that said and done I really look forward to working with some enthusiastic people and have fun with it. At the end of the day we're all here to gain some more exposure, whether in front of the camera or behind it!
