Improving my photographic knowledge and skills became one of my main goals when I recently semi-retired. I have dabbled in photography for over thirty years and currently rate myself as an advanced amateur. I recently upgraded my camera to a Nikon D800E and top of the line Nikon lenses. I have taken several online courses in digital photography and am learning to work with RAW files in Adobe Lightroom.

My subject interests are people, cityscapes, landscapes, and macro. I have been honing my portrait skills using my friends and colleagues as models but I feel the need to start using paid models as well so as to not impose too much on my friends. I also am trying to figure out what it is that I want to accomplish with photography; i.e. what is the purpose of the pictures I take, what am I trying to capture and why, and what are the themes of my photography? I learned from a professional photographer that in order to move beyond the "snapshot" level (no matter how technically accomplished), you need to develop your own photographic vision. I am interested in using models in studio, cityscape, and landscape settings to help me explore what that vision might be.
