About Me

Hello, my name is Carolina. My origins are from Honduras, Central America with Spanish descent. Growing up in an undeveloped country like mine, stirred up feelings inside me to help the less fortunate. That inspiration of helping others motivated me into moulding my dreams into bigger dreams. I started dreaming of becoming a well-known model. When I decided to tell my family about my dreams of becoming a model, I was told that was not a worthy dream and to focus on school. My dreams were not only crushed but denied. Another thing that my family didn't take me seriously for was my desire of singing beyond church. They just ignored me. I got somewhat involved in acting for a while but only for smaller events. I knew this was not going to take me anywhere. Plus, I knew by this time my legal guardian was not interested in my dreams, leading me into not believing in my potentials. Disregarding all the negative occasions I went through, I learned that I was not bad at dancing salsa and so I acquired another talent that gave me a sign of hope for my goals. Growing up, I always loved to be in the spotlight and the center of attention. People constantly told me I had great charisma and always complemented me on my fashion styles. But, I really haven’t had any luck in connecting with the right people, and achieving my dreams yet. I’m not about to lose hope, because I know the secret in reaching your goals is being organize and have discipline. As well, in knowing how badly you want to obtain your dreams and I want it really bad.

Then, my mother whom I admired a lot; had the vision to come to the land of opportunity to achieve much prosperity for us. Once in the U.S.A I was able to dream big again. This time I wanted to be smart and do it right. I wanted to focus in learning and managing the language well, and get some education before I started to go full speed into my dreams.

While in school I experienced lots of good stimulation from different people. One of the things I recall is the day I met the president of Chattanooga State College Dr.Catanzaro. He came to me and said that he liked my drive towards school and the fact that I was a Hispanic woman was more admirable. You see in this community I live, school is not as important as in larger state of Hispanics. He told me right in front of a group of student and staffs of a SGA club. “I want you to be involved in a campaign called "Ask Joe”. To be in that type of campaign you had to really be special at school, and to be good at the auditions. He didn’t wanted me to do all of that he just chose me and told me I was going to be a good face for the Hispanic community outreach in Chattanooga. I was mesmerized! It was such an honor to me to be one of the first faces of the Hispanic students’ ambassador.

Then, little by little I started dreaming of getting into beauty pageants and was able to win my first real pageant. Winning the crown in this type of event; made me believe in myself again. It was like a type of therapy that I needed for years. I couldn't lie to myself any more. The fear that haunted me for years had damaged me. The rejection that I experienced countless times was real. But once I won the crown, it made me realize a part of myself I was holding back by not believing in myself. Countless times I felt I was not pretty enough and my crown told me otherwise. Denying it was pointless now, seeing that old fear collapse in front of my own eyes, was my turning point. This made me want to be a triumphant and a fighter. Some people have physical fights; mine were my old memories and my bad experience while growing up.

Another thing that I lean on this semester was my experience at a community outreach for teen girls. The learning experience was great. When working with this girl I learned how much potential they have for their future. Being in their life motivated them to be more than high school graduates and we had deep conversations about finishing school. Now they are planning about which college to go and what kind of degree they would like to obtain. Also, some of the girls got to see me participate in one of the pageants. For them that was the best experience they ever had in their life. That made them feel more like girly girls. Then they started asking me questions about fashions and what kind of manners should they have when they are at the table eating, sitting and how to talk proper. I was so happy that they were so thirsty to learn about good behavior and to keep collecting dreams of their own. One of the girls really wants to participate in pageants. I want to be there to show her the ups and downs of that world. I know that the enrichment of being part of an activity such as a pageant is full of rewards. It gives you much more confidence and beautiful experiences.

The experience of winning the crown, took me to a second big deal event. It was a state wide opportunity. Another beauty pageant known as Miss U.S. Latina held in Cancun , Mexico. These experiences lead me into finding strategies and unfolding my potential even more than what I thought I could. These two events that happened in my life have not only given me the confidence that I needed, but also given me one of my dreams back to be a model. I know my dreams are many but if you don’t have any dreams then life would not make that much sense. Life should be full of constant projects and goals to keep you well alert of whom you really are.
