About Me

Moving often throughout my life, both nationally and internationally, has had a sustaining effect on my work as an artist. The amazingly rich diversity of our collective humanity has directed my painting to investigate the various ways that we view identity, both others and our own. After graduating from The Rhode Island School of Design in 1995, I finally settled in New York in the spring of 2001. After setting up my studio practice in Brooklyn, I accepted a teaching post at Parsons School of Design in 2002. I have been teaching Drawing and Painting there since. I have found teaching to be the most fulfilling job I could image. Teaching and living in an international city like New York has fulfilled the need to encounter new people and ideas on a regular basis. My work has been exhibited internationally from London to Japan to Spain, and all over the United States from New York to Washington D.C. to Colorado.

Working with models from a wide range of backgrounds is critical to my artistic practice as I rely heavily on ones individual personality and experiences to help direct the painting. It is one of the reasons that NYC provides such fantastic stimulus for my work. Up until now I have relied on people that I have know personally or people referred to me by friends as models for my paintings. For my next series I am interested in working with models that I am less personally connected to and so I have just joined Model Mayhem to help broaden the pool of models I can connect with. If you would be interested in modeling for me at some point please feel free to contact me.
