About Me

I'm Gian Carlo Z. Abellana, Filipino who was born and raised in the Philippines and now based in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada living life to the fullest and exploring what life has to offer. I am a fierce Capricorn, born on the 14th of January 1989 in the mighty city of Butuan, Philippines where I lived most of my life until I graduated university taking up my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Mostly in my student years I loved to join different extra-curricular activities and from nursery to elementary I was an outstanding student. But when I reached high school it was too hard for me to be in the honor spot because I am in a Science High Class/Section. College years were also difficult taking up nursing with all the hectic schedules and exams every now and then. I like public speaking ever since where I bagged different awards and even competed in National Competitions. I am also a youth leader and was part of the Pioneer Member of the Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health Philippines. I represented my country too, in China for an Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) Youth Summit in 2010. After I graduated my Nursing Degree I moved to Cebu City where my dad's family live. I had my Licensure Review there passed the Licensure Exam. I also took units of Business Management through distance learning program. In Cebu I also worked part time as an English Communication Specialist in an ESL Company. I also ventured into the Business Process Outsourcing Industry in 2011, employed with the country’s biggest BPO company- Convergys as a Customer Account Executive with Comcast (an American based cable, phone and internet provider). I lived in Cebu from 2011 to 2012. I had the best of independence as I lived there on my own. I get to enjoy travelling to different places, met new friends and mostly hanging out at the beach on my days off. June 2012, after long years of being away from my mom who worked very hard to give us a very comfortable life, we then finally moved to Canada and landed as Immigrant. At this moment since it will still take a long time before I can practice my profession as a Registered Nurse, I just worked at a hotel in Lethbridge as Guest Service Representative. After working for almost two years as a Guest Service Representative at a chain hotel in my city, I also tried to venture into being a school photographer for few months which gave me the opportunity to travel all around Alberta and some parts of British Columbia. As of this moment, I am currently working in a hotel as Guest Service Manager. Hospitality Industry becomes so easy with me and made me at ease and confident for who I am and what I can be. But still I dream of being the boss of my own, having to blog full time and travel anywhere in the world as a living.

Photography Interests:

I am in loved with photography, it has been my passion but due to financial constraint I did not own a DSLR or a nice camera when I was still in the Philippines, it was just here in Canada on my first hard earned salary I got to buy my Nikon D7000. When I was a kid my mom used to work in AGFA as a cashier and after school we go there and I get to see her boss doing all the studio photoshoot which was my first exposure to photography and made me so interested with it. I like doing fashion themed photography as I am also a fashion enthusiast by heart. I've been to several fashion runway events here in Canada, mostly in Alberta which is so exciting as you need to be very quick in taking photos of the models with fierce attitude, show the creative collections of different designers and also be starstrucked by the amazing faces of the best trendsetters in town gathered in all of those fashion events. I started out as freelance event photographer in 2012 here in Lethbridge, Alberta and until now I still love doing it. I've done events like birthdays, anniversaries, and different local social and fund raising events. Wedding Photography is another side that I would love to get hooked into, but the past 2 weddings I had it was so stressful as you need to be at the event whole day and must have others to help you capture all angles and emotions not just between the bride and groom but also the people gracing the celebration. And with all the hundreds or maybe thousands of photos, I select the best ones by myself and edit all of those alone. Maybe for now what I can only do are themed pre-nuptial and post-nuptial shots as I think I still need to be confident in doing wedding photography. I am a frustrated cinematographer and I would love to produce a short film in the future. I like making wedding SDE's and event video highlights. Right now practice and practice will for sure help me achieve what I want.
