About Me

Christopher-Calvin Pollard is a poet, ambrotypist, and designer of adornments.

I am a tyrant, I only attempt masterpieces, I only work with muses!!

"I am glad that what I do gives you some delight, for that is all I want to give others. As for your question I can not really say—what I do only I can do—nothing I have to say about it can help you, but I will try to tell you what I do.

Furniture, fabrics, objects of purpose and useless objects and of course the female figure—the girl, the lady, the woman: these are life for me—for me all is a vase for the female—and for a singular female at that! It is all for them, for her. Even when I capture an apple for an image—that apple is hers—she is about to pick it up or she just put it down or she has forgotten it or I have picked it for her or I am hiding it from her. All and any of my works: a sketch, a poem, a photograph, an adornment could be titled either Her or Her ___ (insert object, location, or colour—yes, even a solid colour is her or for her).

So as to originality I do not need to kill myself or waste precious time seeking the original pose, line, form, or word—no, great artists of the past and of today had and are dedicated to that search, and I greatly benefit from their wasted time. One’s taste, which is all an artist is, which is what makes a great artist, is revealed through their choice of representation—objects, colours, spaces, bodies, faces, etc… My taste is revealed in my choice of chair, fabric, word… and most importantly my taste is for Her—the girl, the lady, the woman of everything I attempt—they are all gifts to her—she has exquisite taste, so in turn I must create the exquisite—attempt the exquisite."
