I have a background in film and I have been fortunate to observe great cinematographers at work on feature film sets.  My approach to still photography involves exploring moods and emotions with models as if directing a film, with an attention to light and atmosphere in real-world dramatic settings.  I actually think still photographs can have more power than film because a single image can suggest a entire world in the imagination of the viewer. 

I like to work with models who can contribute their own ideas and I value presence and intensity as much as I appreciate beauty and style.  I avoid the forced and contrived poses and excessive post-processing that  you see in so much fashion photography these days. 

Photographers who I admire such as Richard Avedon, Arthur Elgort and Peter Lindbergh, take the time to let their models feel comfortable being themselves.  I aspire to creating images that have an elusive and mysterious quality - that suggest rather than force emotions - so that the unique qualities of the person I am working with come across with a quiet and enduring intensity.  Staged extravaganzas and photoshopped diversions have their place but that's not where I want to go with my work.

I have a lot of professional experience with event photography and videography but I have done portraits and promotional work for authors, dancers, actors and musicians.  My current focus is working with models to develop a strong fashion and lifestyle portfolio.  I also sometimes do artistic nudes and erotic work but I have so far only worked with friends in those styles.  I am open to all kinds of projects and I especially want to make sure that whatever I shoot enhances your portfolio as much as my own.  TFP is great but I can offer paid shoots to experienced models whose work I admire.
