Amy was born into photography... really. Her father, Don Sturkey, is a nationally acclaimed photographer. There are pictures of her mother pregnant with her, pictures of her at the hospital just after birth, published pictures of her being nursed, and pictures of her with one of her first toilet training successes. (It’s a head shot. Her look of surprise on the toilet was for years run in the Charlotte Observer with the caption reading, “Amy gazes with amazement upon what Santa brought her on Christmas morning.”) Well, you get the idea.

She grew up seeing slide shows of her Dad’s amazing photography. She took classes in school as soon as they were available. And now as an adult, she's taken many more classes. She caught the travel bug. When she travels, especially internationally, she is draped with camera gear. She loves to shoot. She gets lots of practice. Her father always said, "If you take enough pictures, some of them are bound to come out."

Her favorite photography is whatever photography she has never done before...or travel photography...because that means she is on the road somewhere. Her preference is photographing people totally different from herself. The more different they are...the giddier she gets.

She is now working on a project for a mobile application photographing, documenting and instructing pediatric physical therapy.
