About Me

I believe that Communication is the most fundamental necessity in life: without it there can be no agreement, no understanding, no learning, and so many other things. Yes, it can give rise to misinterpretations, but these are minor points compared to the advantages and can be dealt with by other methods of better communication.

As a photographer I see myself as part of a 'cast & crew' - as in any stage play where there are the actors and the authors' script - so therefore what I try to produce is always influenced by the ideas of the model. We are after all working as a team to achieve the end goal.

Communication is not only through the spoken word - it is also through art, the theatre, music, and photography. With photography I wish to convey a set of thoughts, of feelings, of memories, of emotions - things that can move the viewer in time or cast their mind in different directions.

To this end I do not 'only' photo portraiture or 'only' landscape, and I also don't look for the 'fashion beauty shot' or the 'extra sexy shot', mostly I plan 'series' shoots where each in the series is all about a particular emotion or a particular stage in life or perhaps a particular time of year. A shoot in such a series will normally result in selection of 4, 5, or 6 photographs which together convey the meaning behind that set in the series.

For the model, you might already have guessed that 'conveying the message' is an important key - that means that I'm looking for the ability to give expressions, importantly to 'act' the part to a degree; I always look at the eyes of a model as these are the most important parts even in any nude shoot, the eyes can speak entire libraries in a fraction of a second.

Communication: shouting louder doesn't make the ear more sensitive... Listen! - You can hear the silence.

I photo in both digital and film, todays' digital using Canon EOS 5D equipment and studio flash lighting and all associated gear, and for analog film I use Mamiya RZ-67 with 120 roll-film (still) with my own darkroom. I also use Hasselblad digital film-backs for my comprehensive RZ-67 kit.
