I work in black-and-white only, to achieve depth, then let the hair frame and hint on the shoulders, trying to keep to sketching as a medium. That conveys emotion, a feeling, making the image more powerful, less distracting. My work is all based on digital images ~ to see something somewhere and get a feeling for it, then draw that out to accentuate the emotion.

Back and white is more powerful a medium and less distracting than color.

When doing a sketch, focus mostly on the portrait because it's a big part of our inner world, our psychology and personality. To take that away is to detract from who we are, that expression - the power of expression, for which the portrait is a medium. The emotion expressed is not sensual, it comes from an ability to create in our own way something that other people can feel.

Seeking not an audience, but expression, something shared and something felt.

If you are tempted to draw down into the torso, you begin to attract other senses, it becomes erotic and the emotion is lost. That's why I very seldom include any other part of the body.

Portraits, not erotic art has more powerful expression.

I use three programs for graphic art - Photoshop, Gimp and Image.net
No image is ever done with just one application, often all three are used.

Then use two rules -
(1) Keep it simple
(2) Detail, detail, detail...

The theme is always emotion - an image that conveys emotion.
